Do Sri Lankan passport holders need a transit visa for Nairobi (NBO)?

No transit visa needed

Transit passengers who stay inside the airport are exempt from Kenya's electronic travel authorisation (eTA).

For an airside connection at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Kenya: one ticket, bags checked through, onward flight to another country, no immigration.

Leaving the airport during the layover

Leaving the airport needs an eTA from etakenya.go.ke before travel: a Transit eTA for a connection, or the standard eTA.

Watch out

An overnight layover at an off-airport hotel, a city tour or a self-transfer on separate tickets means passing immigration, so apply for the eTA in advance.

Checked on 25 October 2026 against these sources. Transit rules change often, and the airline and the immigration authority have the final say, so confirm with your airline before you travel.
