Do Sri Lankan passport holders need a transit visa for Kuala Lumpur (KUL)?
No visa needed for an airside connection of up to about 24 hours within the same terminal on a through ticket. Moving between KLIA Terminal 1 and klia2, or any connection that clears immigration, needs a Malaysian visa.
For an airside connection at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia: one ticket, bags checked through, onward flight to another country, no immigration.
Leaving the airport during the layover
Indians enter visa-free for 30 days (until 31 December 2026) with the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card. Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan and Nepali passport holders need a Malaysian eVisa; the 120-hour transit pass for them is listed as suspended.
Watch out
KLIA Terminal 1 and klia2 have no airside link, so switching terminals, or a low-cost connection that is not checked through, means clearing immigration with a visa.
Checked on 25 October 2026 against these sources. Transit rules change often, and the airline and the immigration authority have the final say, so confirm with your airline before you travel.
