Transit visa questions

What is an airside transit?

You land, stay in the airport's international transit area and board your onward flight without passing immigration. Your bags are checked through to your final destination. Most of the answers here are for this case.

What if I want to leave the airport during the layover?

Then you enter the country, so you need whatever visa a visitor of your nationality needs there. Each airport's page says what that is.

Do I need a transit visa on separate tickets?

Usually you have to collect your bags and check in again, which means passing immigration. Plan for the country's entry visa, not the airside rule.
