Do Sri Lankan passport holders need a transit visa for Bangkok (BKK)?
No visa needed if the layover is 12 hours or less, bags are checked through and you stay in the transit area. Longer layovers or leaving the transit area need a Thai e-Visa.
For an airside connection at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand: one ticket, bags checked through, onward flight to another country, no immigration.
Leaving the airport during the layover
Since 15 September 2026 Indians enter visa-free for 30 days for tourism, with the Thailand Digital Arrival Card filed within 72 hours of arrival. Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan and Nepali passport holders need a Thai e-Visa.
Watch out
A connection between Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK), a self-transfer, or a layover over 12 hours means entering Thailand.
Checked on 25 October 2026 against these sources. Transit rules change often, and the airline and the immigration authority have the final say, so confirm with your airline before you travel.
